Alice "Ruby" Hansen

Alice “Ruby” Hansen, age 98, died peacefully surrounded by her children on February 7, 2025. She was born in Duluth on January 7, 1927, to Nikolai and Ruth Nilsen. 

She graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1944. Ruby worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone, the Duluth office of Standard Oil Company, and on the switchboard at St. Lukes Hospital, retiring in 1984.

She married Kenneth M. Hansen in 1953 and was a lifelong member of Zion (Spirit of God) Lutheran Church. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher, and volunteered at Lake Haven (St. Eligius) Nursing Home, and the Salvation Army. She was a member of Zion Vikings, the Naomi Womans’ Circle, Norton Park Friendship Club, Pairs and Spares, Lenox Club, Forever Fifty Club, and the Classy Red Chapeaux, Red Hat Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, sister Audrey, and brother Byron. She is survived by her brother Lloyd Nilsen of Deerfield Beach, FL, children David (Jody) Hansen of Maple Grove, MN, Karen (Ron) Garthus of Duluth, and Gary (Neta) Hansen of Lubbock, TX. Six grandchildren, Chad Hinnenkamp, Jasen Elcombe, Adam Richard, Nora Johnson, Kathryn Hartman and Clayton Hansen, and six great grandchildren, Edrick, Freya, Leo, Chase, Parker, and Lyla. Many family members and friends.

The visitation will be held on Friday Feb. 14, 2025, at Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home from 5:00PM-7PM, visitation will continue Saturday Feb. 15 at Spirit of God Lutheran Church from 1:00PM-2:00PM Funeral Service. In lieu of Flowers, memorials preferred to Spirit of God Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. She loved everyone she knew and everyone she knew loved her.
