Clifford G. Kiehl, age 88, Duluth, died peacefully after a brief illness, April 17, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Duluth on April 25, 1925 to George and Gladys Kiehl. After graduating from Morgan Park High School in 1943, Clifford joined the Navy as a Corpsman. Serving in the South Pacific in WWII, Clifford witnessed the raising of the United States flag on Iwo Jima from shipboard in 1945. Clifford married Nancy Borough in Duluth on October 4, 1952, and they were married for 58 years until her death in 2011.He was employed at US Steel and later retired from St. Louis County as a Health Inspector. Clifford enjoyed spending time outdoors, and particularly looked forward to each deer hunting season with his sons and grandsons. Clifford also enjoyed baking, bowling, fishing and a good game of cribbage. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, son Bill, sister Carol Furlund and brothers’ Lloyd and Allen. Clifford is survived by his daughters Pat Kiehl and Jean (Rod) Fournier, Duluth, son Tim (Janis Stern),Duluth, sister Betty (Charlie), O’Hara FL, daughter –in-law, Carol Kiehl, White Bear Lake, MN, grandchildren Mike, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Matt, Aaron, Megan, Chad, Andrea, Tyler and 7 great-grandchildren. Memorial service Monday April 21, 2014, 11AM at Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home.
