David Gehlen

David Charles Gehlen, 42, of Duluth, passed away on Monday January 6, 2020 in Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Hospital.  He was born on June 7, 1977 in Greely, CO to Chuck and Gloria Gehlen.  David graduated from Duluth Central High School and from the College of St. Scholastica.  David was also part of the Saint Scholastica drum line!    He had worked at St. Scholastica and for HRA as a maintenance engineer, David also worked with Dave Erickson,  painting houses and cabins up the North Shore.  David enjoyed bee keeping,  fishing, golfing, and agate hunting, He loved the outdoors and shared this passion with his son Oliver.   He took  Oliver on many outdoor adventures. teaching  him to love and respect all living things.

David loved to help people...there was nothing that he wouldn't do to help someone in need.    He would open his apartment to anyone that needed a place for the night...and his food was everyone's food.  He loved to cook and share his food with anyone that needed a meal.   If you were a person holding up a cardboard sign asking for help, David would give you his last dollar!    David will be missed by many people that he loved and that loved him...RIP DAVE G!

David was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Richard and Noreen Gehlen, and maternal grandparents Lester and Sylvia Vorlicek.

He is survived by his son Oliver and his mother Julie, parents Chuck and Gloria Gehlen, sister Carrie (Mike Van Ert) Gehlen, and his nieces Abby and Michelle.
