Of Morgan Park, 88, passed away on April 8, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a long fight with cancer.
Dorothy was born in Duluth, MN on May 23, 1933 to parents Dominic and Mary (O’Connor) Blotti. She proudly graduated from Denfeld High in 1951, and later worked for Northwestern Bell and Minnesota Power and Light. On January 21, 1956, she married Walter Ament, her pen pal, best friend, and love of her life. Dorothy taught dance classes for thirty-seven years in West Duluth, and she was later the dance team coach at her alma mater, Denfeld High School. She was inducted into the Minnesota Association of Dance Teams Hall of Fame in 2007. Dorothy was an active parishioner at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church until its closing, and then at St. Lawrence’s Catholic Church until her passing.
The name “Dorothy” means “gift of God,” and to her friends and family, she truly was a gift. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother, always ready with a witty remark or a kind word, and she found immense joy in caring for others. No matter the obstacles, she found a way to keep her family traditions alive, even amidst the turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic. She was an artist with a needle and thread, a baker whose treats were never left uneaten, and an avid crossword puzzler.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Blotti; and her daughter, Judith Anne. Dorothy is survived by Walt, her loving husband of sixty-six years; Patricia Coombes, her cousin in blood but sister in heart; her daughters, Pamella (Dan) Wallgren and Mary (Mike) Ament-Johnson; her granddaughters, Emily Wallgren, Katherine Johnson, and Anna Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors; her best friends Mary and Florence; and her beloved grand-dogs, Lacey, Keanu, Max, and Maggie.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff from the Miller-Dwan 5th Floor Oncology Unit; the loving individuals from Essentia Health Hospice and Palliative Care; and the caring workers from the Essentia Health West Duluth Lab and Registration departments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Lawrence Church 2410 Morris Thomas Rd, Duluth, with a Visitation beginning at 10am. Interment at Oneota Cemetery. Masks required at Church.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would like any donations to go to Animal Allies of Duluth. She loved dogs. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home 218-624-1059.
