Dr. David F. Beran

Dr. David F. Beran, 84, of Duluth, died Thursday, January 9, 2025 in his home with family by his side. Dave was born on October 8, 1940 in Chicago to Frank and Leola Beran. He earned his Doctorate degree from University of Northern Colorado in Greely, CO. Dave retired from UWS after 40 years where he was a professor in the math department. He taught calculus and trigonometry and loved solving math problems. He was awarded Teacher of the Year at UWS. Dave was an accomplished piano player and volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth and Superior playing background music in the lobby. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dr. John Beran; stepson, Larry Johander; a stepdaughter, Janice Voltzke. Dave is survived by his wife, Lillian; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; niece, Rebecca and nephew, Peter and a son-in-law, Steven Voltzke. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 1 pm at Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
