Gregory Travis

Gregory Paul Travis, 69, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends who sang for him all afternoon Friday, May 6, 2016 at SMDC. Although diagnosed with pancreatic cancer barely two weeks prior, the journey, nonetheless, felt "very long" to him. An ever adventurous, lifelong learner, Greg loved the outdoors, scouting, worldwide travel, and sharing music and laughter. His gentle soul was always selflessly serving others. Margaret (Laufenberg) and Dr. James Travis welcomed Greg into this world July 29, 1946 in St. Paul, MN. He married the love of his life, JoEllen Blaha May 27, 1972. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fr. Jim Travis M.M. and sister, Beth Travis-Betts. Dad is survived by his wife, JoEllen, daughters Monica (Carol Waldoch) and Maggie, sons Scott (Tara VanLanen), Dan (Garth Schilling) and grandchildren Lila and Henry. Dad's doggie companions, Augie and Mae, will miss his walks in the woods. Funeral Mass, on Saturday May 14 at 2:30 with visitation one hour before. Both gatherings will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Duluth. Memorials preferred to the family.
