Irene Genevieve Williams, 84, of Duluth, died Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Proctor. Irene was born in Duluth on September 11, 1936 to James and Genevieve (LeBeau) Higgins. Irene was a 1955 graduate of Cathedral High School. Irene was a leader and participated in Prayer Groups at St. James, Sandstone Prison and the Duluth Prison for over 25 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was active with the Fall Bizarre and the outside gardening. Irene had a Day Care at her home for over thirty years. She was very active with her church, especially when her children were attending St. Jean’s Catholic School. She kept busy with fundraisers, making pasties and donuts, and was known as one of the “Hot Dog Ladies”. She belonged to the Diet Club and Sewing Club, enjoyed playing volleyball and volunteered at Chris Jensen with outside gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents; ex. husband - Richard (Dick) Williams, sisters - Patricia Marlenga, Sr. Mary Rae Higgins O. S. B., and Susan Krier; brothers - Donald, James, Butch, and Roy. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Marlon) Mattson, Dan (Pak) Williams, Dennis Williams, Sandra Haydon all of Duluth and Don Williams of Minneapolis; three sisters, Nancy (Charles) Davidson, Sr. Barbara Higgins O.S.B. all of Duluth, Bonnie (Mike) Tweedy of The Villages, Florida and one brother, Wayne (Carol) Higgins of Mankato, MN and Port Charlotte, Florida; eight grandchildren, Salena, Melissa, Kyle, Jessica, Joshua, James, Paige and Caleb; 10 great-grandchildren, Tristan, Colton, Oakley, Austin, Eli, Evan, Kayden, Alexis, Molly and Mya. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, November 6, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church. 2430 West 3rd Street. Fr. Elias Gieske officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church would be appreciated. Arrangement by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
