James Luczak

James J. Luczak, 86, of Duluth, died peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Essentia Health Miller-Dwan. Jim was born in Duluth on July 29, 1934 to Stanley and Stella Luczak. Jim graduated from Denfeld High School in 1952, and married Joyce Sundset on October 13, 1956 in Duluth; celebrating 64 years together until her passing in November 2020. Jim retired from the Duluth Water and Gas Department, after 34 years, working in various departments.  Jim and Joyce spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels throughout the community. Jim was an avid sports fan, playing baseball, softball, golf and was the state champion ski jumper in high school. He loved the outdoors, listening to the Twins while sitting on his deck and taking rides around town in his car. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends to Nevada. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Janet and a sister, Delores Hallfielder.  Jim is survived by his children, Jeff (Cheryl) Luczak and Jill (DuWayne) Bastyr, all of Duluth; four grandchildren, Allison (Cody) Willis of Duluth, Justin (Laura Semrad) Luczak of Superior, Chelsea (Levi) Talarico of Duluth and Brady Bastyr of Duluth; and one great-grandson Lincoln James Willis and one on the way. The family would like to thank the staff at Miller-Dwan for the wonderful care and compassion extended to Jim and his family. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 12 pm until the 1:00 pm funeral service at Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home. Masks will be required. Entombment will be at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery, Hermantown. If so desired, memorials may be directed to CHUM.
