James Marsy

May 24, 1919 — February 14, 2015

James Gordon Marsy, 95, of Duluth, passed away on February 14, 2015. Jim was born in Jacobsville, Mich. to Minnie and Fred Marsy on May 24, 1919. He graduated from Chassell H.S., Chassell, Mich. in 1937 and then made his way to Duluth, where he met and married Ev, who he shared 66 years with. Jim proudly served in the US Army as a member of the 744th Railway Operating Battalion in France and Belgium during World War II. Jim worked for the Northern Pacific/Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years, retiring in 1980. Jim and Ev spent their retirement years traveling and enjoying life together. Jim was preceded death by his wife, Ev, parents, brothers, Fritz, Art, Jerry and Jack and sister, Alice Abramson. Jim is survived by son, Jerry; daughter, Sue (Debbie Waldriff); Shannon VanderGiessen and several nieces, nephews and cousins. We would like to thank the staff and residents of Edgewood Vista Independent Living, for making the last eight years of Jim's life enjoyable. A special thanks to his exercise class group and the guys at the "boys" lunch table, for keeping Jim active and involved in life. To Dr. Mary Wendt and the staff of St. Luke's Hospice; thank you so much for helping us through the final week of Jim's life. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, Feb. 19, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service in Bethany Lutheran Church.
