Jean Marie (Peterson) Olson passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior on May 8, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Jean was born to Louis and Marie Peterson on March 15, 1937. She was a proud graduate of Duluth Central High, graduating as co-valedictorian in 1955. Growing up, Jean was very active in 4H, winning numerous fabric and food competitions at local fairs. Her famous “dress review” included wearing a strapless floor length gown made out of a floral feedsack! Her most proud moment was winning a grand championship at the MN State Fair food demonstration with her “apple pie cake”. Jean met her husband, Dave, while working at Camp Miller and enjoyed 55 years of marriage together until his passing in 2012. Jean loved her church activities including teaching Sunday School, organizing kitchen meals, and participating on various committees over the years. She also loved her dogs regularly walking her “Sunshine” as often as possible. She especially enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids participate in sporting and other school activities. She was employed at Hancock Fabrics for 20 years and sewing was a life-long passion handed down from her mother. She crafted many outfits for her grandchildren and loved quilting and donating the items she made. Family was important and she especially enjoyed “family time” at their cabin on Lake Dodo. One of Jean’s first memories was the purchase of the land and eventual cabin over 80 years ago. Jean is survived by her three sons, Dan and Terri, Keith and Michelle, Brian and Karrin; grandchildren, Megan (Brian), Jennifer (Dan), Calvin (Brooke), Haley, Jesse (Lexi), Erika (Parker), Emily (Mike), Gabriel, Genevieve, Parker, Mason, and Cole; great grandchildren, Caden, Ben, and Haylee; brother, George; nephews, Phil, Glenn, and Ralph. Visitation will be at 1pm on Friday, May 31st at New Life Covenant Church with Service to follow at 2pm. A special thank you to the Oncology Staff at St. Lukes, Ecumen Lakeshore, and Edgewood Vista for their devoted care for Mom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to New Life Covenant for their building fund.
