Joan Linda "Joanie" Hansen, 69, of Marywood Assisted Living, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 in Essentia Health, Duluth. She was born in Duluth on June 13, 1946 to John and Ruth (Halvorson) Archambault and was a lifelong resident here. Joanie was a graduate of Denfeld High School and St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an LPN at St. Mary's Hospital until her physical disabilities would not let her continue. Joanie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, was one of the founders of the Young Women's Arthritis Group and was a volunteer at Miller Dwan Medical Center. She was a Christian organizer at the various places she lived. She arranged for Christian services and prayer groups, always showing care and compassion for the other residents. She focused on her abilities, rather than her disabilities. Joanie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sisters, Janice (William) Arezzo and Deborah (Jim) Bordson, both of Duluth; lifelong friend, Linda (Larry) Olson; nieces and nephews, Brent (Pam) Bordson, Reid (Paul) Bordson-Nolle, Brooke Bordson, Jayme (Andrea) Arezzo and Stacey (Kevin) Wempen; and great-nieces and nephews, Brianna, Brittany, Brooklyn, Anna, Henry and Cole. Joanie's family wishes to express a special thank you to Rev. Michael Main, Essentia Surgical ICU, chaplains and staff at Benedictine Health Center and Marywood Assisted Living and Dr. Dean Fox, for the wonderful care and compassion given to Joanie at the end of her life. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service Friday in Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St., with Rev. Michel Main officiating. Memorial contributions are preferred to Benedictine Health Center or Christ Lutheran Church. To sign the guestbook on-line, visit www.wlbfuneral-home.com.
