Karen L. Nyberg, age 77, of Duluth, died peacefully Monday, April 13, 2020 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s. Karen was born on January 15, 1943 in Pine City, MN to Robert and Pearl Buirge. She was a 1961 graduate of Denfeld High School and married Dennis Nyberg on October 5, 1968 in Duluth. Karen was an active member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church. Karen worked at Aero Supply for many years and later in Home Care before retiring in 1999. She volunteered much of her time as PTA member and Bible School Teacher. After retiring she enjoyed many years of travel and adventure with her husband and friends. Karen was and will always be the light of her family. She had an energy that drew you in. Her spirit and light showed in her smile. She was a picture of beauty inside and out. Her love and compassion for the life of others was extraordinary. She loved her friends and family with all of her heart. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pearl Buirge. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Nyberg of Duluth; two daughters, Jill Nyberg (Steve Stabs) of Duluth, and Amy (Brad) Bonfigt of Pike Lake; beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Bonfigt; brother, Gary Buirge of Blaine, MN; niece, Wendy Schweiger (Mike) of Ramsey; and great niece and nephew, Kasey and Jaylen Schweiger; several cousins; and many dear friends. A public memorial service will not be held at this time. A private family service and burial at Bethany Cemetery were held. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
