Madeline “Maddy” (Durfee) Larson, 90, of Duluth, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024 at Essentia Health. Maddy was born on August 14, 1934 in Duluth to Archie and Mary Louise Thibault. She attended Duluth Central High School and worked as a CNA at Lake Haven for many years and as a PCA at Senior Friends.
Maddy was a longtime member at Holy Family Catholic Church where she was involved with many activities including Pasties, funeral receptions and the annual rummage sale. She was also a member of the Good Fellowship Club, Children’s Christmas Club and a 35 year member of the West Duluth Moose/Proctor Moose where she was the Senior Regent. She belonged to the Citizen’s Neighborhood Watch and the City of Duluth recognized her with the “Maddy Larson Day”. She was active in the Riverside Community and affectionately known as the “Mayor of Riverside”. Maddy resided at Spirit Lake Manor for several years, where she started “Coffee and Conversation” and “Movie Night”. She enjoyed reading, crafts, baking especially Christmas Cookies, but mostly entertaining family and friends. She was very proud of her grandchildren, always attending sporting events and other activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Eugene Durfee Sr. and Richard Larson; sons, Robert Eugene Jr and Christopher; Maddy was the last of 22 siblings.
Maddy is survived by her children, Cindy (Doug) Steinbach, Martin (Martha) Durfee, William Durfee, Lori Bloomer and Michele (Bill Molyneux) Larson; grandchildren, George, Gina, Shaun, Toni, Jim, Mike, Ryan, Kevin, Holly, Hanna, Adam, Annie, Kendel and Jacob; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial Friday, November 15, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church. 2430 West 3rd Street. Fr Anthony Craig officiating.
