Margaret (Maggie) Bjorklund, 100, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 21, 2018 at Viewcrest Health Center. Margaret was born in Proctor, MN to Nels and Hulda Ekstrand on November 25, 1917. She was a 1935 graduate of Proctor High School. After graduating she went to work at Kleerflax for 5 years. On August 17, 1940, Margaret married Herbert “Herb” Bjorklund in Proctor. They settled in West Duluth and remained in the same house for more than 50 years. Margaret was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity. There she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Rebecca Circle and Altar Guild. Margaret loved being a stay at home mom. Family was most important to her. She was involved in PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and a volunteer for school activities. Margaret was an avid golfer and a member of the Pike Lake Ladies League. She golfed way into her 80’s and also was on a few bowling leagues. She was a member of the West Duluth Women’s Club. Margaret and her high school friends had a “sewing club” in which they got together at least once a month for over 50 years. She also worked at J.C. Penneys. Margaret and Herb enjoyed their time at the cabin on Caribou Lake. There they entertained family and friends for many years. You could always find them on the pontoon trolling for “Caribou Lake Salmon”. In their retirement years they traveled to Sweden and Norway to visit relatives and their parent’s birth places. They also made trips to Germany, Hawaii and Mexico. Spending time in Florida and Texas during the winters was a favorite. Mom was a very loving, kind and caring woman. She never had an unkind word to say. We will all miss her and her beautiful smile. Margaret was preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle who perished in the 1918 fire; her parents; husband, Herbert of 58 years; daughter, Joan “Joni” and special friend, Bob Johnson. Margaret is survived by daughter, Barbara (James) Woodhull of Duluth; son, Kurt (Renate) Bjorklund of Duluth; grandsons, Darrin (Zulema) Woodhull of Monument, CO, Todd (Kristen) Woodhull of Duluth and Dan Mayer of Phoenix, AZ; great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Samantha Woodhull of Duluth. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Viewcrest Health Center and Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of our mother, especially those in “Green Valley”. A celebration of life will take place in May at Waters of Life Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse for the Blind, 4505 West Superior Street, Duluth, MN 55807 or donor’s choice. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
