Marie Eck

Marie Magdalene Eck, 102, of Lester Park Neighborhood, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in the Benedictine Health Center. Marie was born on December 4, 1911 in Norway to Ole and Thilda Engerbretson. She came to Duluth in 1912 and was a 1929 graduate of Denfeld High School and a 1932 graduate of Duluth State Teachers College. Marie M. Olson married Arthur Eck on August 8, 1936 in Wesley United Methodist Church in Duluth. She worked for J. C. Penney Co until 1977 and for the Plaza Children's Shop until retiring in 1987. She is a member of Lester Park United Methodist Church and its Naomi Circle. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years, and its Naomi Circle and Jet Set. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Sons of Norway Norton Lodge 16, Lester Park Garden Club, and a former member of the Lakeside Chapter 2505 of AARP and the Golden Age Club at Portland Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, sisters, Marianne Nelson and Cora Bergstrom. She is survived by three sons, Edward (LaVonne) of Esko, twins, Rolland (Colleen) of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Rodney of Duluth; grandchildren, Sheryl (Paul) Conley, Laurie (Fred) Puglisi, Ronald (Heather) Eck, Darren Eck, Emily Eck, Amy (Mark) Patenaude and Julie (Chad) DuBois; great-grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Conley, Robyn and Katie Conley, Samantha, Frank and Nicole Puglisi, Carla (Mark) Fermenich, Amber (Bob) Lindstrom, Alexis Shatto, Lauren and Zack DuBois; seven great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, August 30, 2014 in Hillside United Methodist Church, 1801 Piedmont Ave., Duluth, MN. Rev Sam Kautz officiating.
