Marion Elaine Lenning Boyle, 92, of West 4th Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on May 9, 1927 in Duluth to Hans and Marjorie Lenning. Elaine was a lifelong resident of West Duluth, a 1945 graduate of Denfeld High School and a member of the V-8’s. Elaine married Thomas Neil Boyle and they raised two children, Charles Michael and Patricia Gene. Elaine had a lifelong career at St. Luke’s Hospital starting as a Candy Striper and retiring as department manager in the laboratory. She was a member of the American Society of Medical Technologists, the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She was a lifelong member of Elim Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild. She was a loyal Minnesota sports fan, enjoyed spending time at the family cabin, reading, gardening, traveling, crocheting, knitting, walking and shopping with her daughter and granddaughter. She was happiest spending time with her family, always thought of them first. Her great-grandsons were her joy, and she was affectionately known as their Grandma Peepers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lila June; and her former husband, Thomas Neil Boyle. She is survived by a daughter, Patty (Todd) Pederson of Esko; a son, Charles “Mike” (Paula) Boyle; a granddaughter, Dana Ann (Joe) Benson of Waconia, MN; four great-grandsons, Joey, Nick, Chris and Jake; a sister, Charlotte (Toivo) Rysman of Duluth and their children, Lynn and Jill; many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial service Monday, July 1, 2019 at Elim Lutheran Church, 6101 Cody Street. Pastor Jim Hagen officiating. Burial at Oneota Cemetery.
