Marlene Joan Carlson, 84, formerly of Piedmont Heights, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Twin Ports Health Center in Superior. She was born on May 22, 1934 in Ashland, WI to Gordon and Mildred Talaska. Marlene graduated from Virginia High School and later attended St. Luke’s School of Radiology, working at St. Luke’s in her earlier years. She married Carl Oscar Carlson in Duluth on March 12, 1954. Marlene’s passion was gardening, working for various greenhouses and was active with the Piedmont Garden Club and the Twin Ports Rosemaling Society. She also worked as a sales associate for many years at Glass Block in the Mall. Marlene was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carl. She is survived by her children, Scott (Peggy) of Duluth, Sandy (Mark) Moselle of Superior, WI, Paula (Darren) Swanson of Fosston, MN, Brian (Debbie) of Duluth and Mark of Duluth; 14 grandchildren, Christine, Eric, Jason, Tony, Jenny, Sam, Ellen, Libby, Jay, Jordon, Jackson, Jaden, Josh and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Carlee and Nate; four sisters-in-law, Betty (Clair) Peltoma, Kay Lueck, Susan Medlin and Jackie Carlson; many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Twin Ports Health Center for the wonderful care provided during the past two years.
