Max Benjamin Semmelroth, 94 of Duluth passed away peacefully with family by his side, Sunday, June 2, 2019. Max was born in Grand Rapids, MN on April 14, 1925, to Maximilian and Carrie (Anderson) Semmelroth. Max grew up in the Duluth area and attended Denfeld High School, class of 1944. Max loved and married Beverley (Benson) in 1952 and they celebrated 66 years together. Max served in WW II on the aircraft carrier the USS Saginaw Bay. After the war he worked on the DM&IR railroad as a brakeman / Conductor for 40 years. Max retired in 1985 and enjoyed 34 years of retirement. During his retirement he volunteered at Nopeming nursing home for 15 years. One of Max's highlights was going to his navy reunions. Max enjoyed dancing, playing cards especially bridge, gardening, hunting, fishing, & going to the cabin. Max & Bev enjoyed traveling together, especially the trip to Europe and spending winters in Arizona. Max was a member of the American Legion #71, Proctor Moose Lodge #1302, Trinity Lodge #282, Toast Masters, Euclid Lodge #242, Bong Historical Center, Proctor Historical Society, Narve Unit #92, and Escort Carrier Association. He attended Forbes Methodist Church and LSI Community Church. Max was preceded in death by his brother Cliff; three sisters Doris, Jean, and Grace; grandson, David, Jr. Max is survived by his loving wife, Beverley (Benson), sons, David (Debbie) and Tom (Connie); grandchildren, Trudi, Sara, Beth, and Jon and 7 Great-grandchildren: brothers, Jim and Al (Donna); and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Prim Rose for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Forbes United Methodist church, Lake Superior interfaith Community Church or Proctor Historical Society.
