Nathalie Ann Whalen, 97, of Duluth, died Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the North Shore Estates. Nathalie was born in Monico, WI on September 28, 1922 to Byron and Ann (Lagon) Meagher. She was a Duluth resident most of her life and was a graduate of Morgan Park High School. She married Emmet W. Whalen on June 12, 1944 in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. They were married for 45 years before his death in 1989. She was a secretary for Garon Knitting Mills for 29 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Nathalie enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and bowling. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmet; sisters, Judith Cossalter and Jeane LaSalle; two brothers, William Meagher and Richard Meagher. She is survived by a daughter, Claudia (William) Ferraro of Bayfield, WI; a son, William (Joanne) of Eau Claire, WI; three grandchildren, Christopher (Tracey) Walke of Waconia, MN, Jennifer (Joe) Schwellenbach of Woodbury, MN and Ryan (Kari) Whalen of Wausau, WI; three great-grandchildren, Riley Schwellenbach, Cameron Walke, Laney Schwellenbach and Preston Whalen; her best friend and companion for 31 years, Winfred “Wimpy” Leopold of Duluth and his daughter, Heidi Horsch of Eden Prairie, MN; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church. 2430 West 3rd Street. Fr Ryan Moravitz officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
