Norman A. Nelson, 87, of West Arrowhead Road, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 in the Mille Lacs Lake Health Care Center. He was born on July 28, 1928 in Duluth to Nels and Marie Nelson. Norman was a graduate of Denfeld High School and worked for the Proctor School District. He retired as a chief engineer/boiler maker at the Munger School. Norm was a member of the Northwestern Gun Club, United Northern Sportsman, NRA, Lakehead Harvest Reunion and the Masonic Lodge. Norm enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and volunteered with the Special Olympics and the Boy Scouts. He taught rifle marksmanship and was involved in shooting competitions. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Rae Janice; a son, Roger and his eight siblings. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Parker Reed Nelson; a daughter, Terry (Ronald) Blaisdell of Two Harbors; sons, Gary (Pat) of Munger, MN and Randy (Ginny) of Munger, MN; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Nelson of Duluth; stepchildren, Betty Dallmann, June Lahti, Joan Griffith and Anthony Reed; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Ann, Eric, Tanya, Tim, Kim, Bryan, Kurtis, Jeffrey and Jacqueline; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Visitation 12 noon until the 1 p.m. Funeral service Monday, March 7, 2016 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. 9030 Beaudry St. Rev Dennis Morriem officiating. Burial in Oneota Cemetery.
