Rev. John W. Hammack Jr., 85, of Duluth, passed away peacefully at the Benedictine Healthcare Center with his family by his side, Saturday, December 9, 2017.John was born April 26, 1932 in Canton, Ohio to John Sr. and Thelma Hammack. He was a graduate of North Central Bible College in 1953. He was an ordained minister for the Assemblies of God for over 50 years.John’s passion was his ministry of the Gospel. He pioneered, pastored and built churches in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. He was active in each community. He was an awardee for 50-years of EMS service. John was instrumental in starting the St. Louis County and Douglas County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy agencies. He was also a member of the Critical Incident Debriefing Team. John was sent to Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks, with Fr. John Petrich to minister to those in need, and give last rights to the fallen. He was a member of the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William.John is survived by his family whom he dearly loved, his loving wife of 65 years, Frances; children, Terry (Crystal), Trudy (Robert) Ege, Wanda (Robert) Roller; grandchildren, Carri, Jennifer (Steven), Brett (Jessica) Jacyln (Nathan), Sarah, Michelle, Elizabeth (Ryan), Joanna (Greg), Laura (Ryan), and Rachel; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Leon (Amy); and other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Louis County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Agency (SLCLEC)The family would like to thank the staff at the Benedictine Healthcare Center for their care and support during John’s time there. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home, 3208 W 3rd Street, Duluth, MN 55806.  Visitation will continue Wednesday 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Service at the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 W Superior St, Duluth, MN 55806, Pastor Rolf Fure officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors, MN.Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home, 218-624-1059
