Richard “Dick” C. McLean, 92, of Duluth, passed away on July 2, 2022. Dick was born on June 23, 1930 in Duluth, MN, to Arthur and Mildred (Huseby) McLean. Dick married Lorna Nichols in Duluth on August 6, 1946 and they enjoyed 74 years of marriage completely devoted to each other. Dick started his career on Lake Superior as a mate on a “laker.” He spent most of his working life as the captain of the “Reiss Marine”, a boat that fueled lakers and ocean going ships in the Duluth harbor, often working 24/7 at the height of the shipping season. He was a member of the International Shipmasters Association-Twin Ports Lodge #12. Dick and Lorna enjoyed his retirement, spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with family and playing cribbage and bowling. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Lorna, parents; stepmother, Geneva McLean; and brother, William McLean. He is survived by a son, Dennis (Sarah); a daughter, Linda (Mark) Anthony; five grandchildren, Brett (Leah) McLean, Brian (Crystal) McLean, Lisa (John) Paitich, Rich (Pam) Selbak and Curt (Jennifer) Selbak; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation 10 am until the 11 am memorial service Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church. 2415 Ensign St. Pastor Gary DeSha officiating. Inurnment at Oneota Cemetery. Memorials to Christ Lutheran Church Food Shelf would be appreciated. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
