Richard R. “Dick” Seseman, 92, of Piedmont Heights, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Viewcrest Health Center. Dick was born in Duluth on March 23, 1927 and attended Denfeld High School, leaving during his senior year to join the US Navy. While at Denfeld, Dick participated in sports, including football where he was known as “crazy legs”. Dick was a US Navy veteran serving in World War II and the Korean War. He married Dolores Haugseth in Superior on May 20, 1950. Following his Naval service, Dick worked as a salesman, starting out selling potato chips and retiring from Franklin Creamery where he delivered milk to many stores in the area. Growing up, Dick spent most summers on Devil’s Island and Raspberry Island in the Apostle Island chain where his dad was the lighthouse keeper. Dick was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, was an avid golfer and a member of Enger Park Golf Course, and was also a member of the men’s coffee group at the Piedmont Milk House. Dick was active with the VFW Post 137, Piedmont Hockey Association, coaching hockey, baseball and playing fast pitch softball. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Seseman; his bride, Dolores; an infant sister and an infant son, Scott. Dick is survived by a daughter, Sandy (Brad) Maynard of Woodbury, MN; a son, Mark (Margo) of Saginaw, MN; four grandchildren, Amanda Maynard of Chicago, Kristin (Drew) Shaffer of York, PA, Scott (Jaimie Rippentrop) Seseman of Woodbury, MN and Brandon (Katie Sullivan) Seseman of Forest Lake, MN; seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest and St. Luke’s Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign Street. Pastor Gary DeSha officiating.
