Rolland E. “Rollie” Royer, 95, of Duluth, died Friday, November 22, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Duluth on July 27, 1924 to Gaudias and Laura (Marteneau) Royer. Rollie married Marcella H. Hansen on August 13, 1948 in Duluth. He worked for the City of Duluth Water and Gas Department, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Medical Corps in Europe. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the West Duluth American Legion Post 71 and the VFW Post 137. He loved playing cards, traveling and spending winters in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo, Jerry, Lloyd, Larry, Reggie and Donald; sisters, Victoria Patnaude, Cleo Larson and Mary Ann Jacobson. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marcella “Marcy”; a daughter, Marlene (Jerry) Lunke of Duluth; granddaughters, Jodie Lunke of Duluth, Diana (Mike) McCollum of Hudson, WI and Mary (Frank) Watruba of Duluth; great-grandchildren, Jessica McCollum of Hudson, WI, Joshua (Meghan) McCollum of Minneapolis, Cassaundra Carlson of Duluth and Dustin Newton of Duluth; a brother, Richard of Duluth; many nieces and nephews. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, November 29, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2430 West 3rd St. Fr Ryan Moravitz officiating. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church would be appreciated.
