Sargent W. “Sarge” Larson, 90, of Duluth, died Thursday, January 2, 2020 in Heritage Haven Assisted Living Community. He was born on July 3, 1929 in Duluth to Lawrence and Edna (Sargent) Larson. Sarge was a graduate of Denfeld High School and attended College prior to enlisting in the Army, where he served during the Korean War. Sarge married Genevieve “Gen” Tessier on October 2, 1954 at St. Jean’s Catholic Church in Duluth. Sarge worked as a butcher at Famous Foods and retired from Paulson’s Super Market. He is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and attends St. Lawrence Catholic Church; the French Club, American Legion Post 71, the VWF Post 137 and the Teamsters UFCW Local 663. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping, attending all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, card games with friends, traveling and wintering in Yuma, AZ. Sarge participated in the 2014 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert. Sarge is survived by his wife, Gen; six children, Kathleen (Terry) Ulshafer, Karen (Jim) Brandt, Janet (Mark) Hastreiter, David (Vicki) Larson, Thomas (Sheila) Larson and Terri (Tony) Bronson; a brother, Larry Larson; a sister, Barbara (Ken) Johnson; 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Sarge will be best remembered as a hard working family man.
Visitation 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. 2410 Morris Thomas Road. Rev Fr Ryan Moravitz officiating. Burial at the Minnesota Veteran’s Cemetery-Duluth. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
