Vance Arthur Bushey Jr, 82, of Duluth, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019 in his home. He closed his eyes with his family by his side and opened his eyes to an Amazing church service in Heaven. He was born on April 24, 1937 in Duluth to Vance Sr and Faith (Schuman) Bushey. Vance was a 1957 graduate of Denfeld High School and served in the Marine Corps. Following his service, Vance attended UMD, graduating with degrees in Sociology, History, and a teaching certificate. While at Denfeld, Vance was the co-captain for the football team and at UMD, he played football under Coach Malosky. Vance married Darlene Nosek in Duluth on September 18, 1965. He was a police officer for the Duluth Police Department, retiring in 1985, as a patrolman and worked as the director of the School Patrol Program for many years. Vance also was a substitute and long term substitute teacher for the Duluth, Cloquet, Carlton and Wrenshall Schools. He was an active member at The Landing Church; attended the Bethany Fellowship Missionary Training Center in Bloomington, MN. He taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. Vance served on the Board of Child Evangelism and was actively involved with Basic Youth Conflict Seminars, Youth for Christ, Adult Bible studies that met at homes and Men’s Bible studies that met at church. Vance was very involved with his grandchildren which brought him much joy watching them at their activities. Vance was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlene; a special cousin, Thomas Tucker and his father & mother in-law Wallace & Mabel Nosek. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; three daughters, Sharon (Bruce) Brown and their children, Joshua and Mahlin; Edith “Edie” (Bryce) Fontaine and their children, Johnathan (Michelle) and Jaiden; Julia (Mark) Campbell and their children, Ebony, Cassandra and Sara; a great-granddaughter, Anaya; a brother, William (Kay) Bushey; many nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Larry (Mary) Tucker. Visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2019 at The Landing Church, 9302 West Skyline Parkway- Duluth, visitation will continue Saturday from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service at The Landing Church. Pastor’s Phil Terrill and Brent Nelson officiating. Burial in Oneota Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Please consider memorials which will be given to Vance and Darlene’s favorite Christian ministries.
