William “Bill” Kearns Swanstrom, 86, of West Duluth, died September 7, 2021. Bill was born on November 1, 1934 in Duluth to Dwight A. Swanstrom and Anna Jean Kearns. Bill was a 1952 graduate of Denfeld High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Macalester College in 1956. Bill served 6 years in the Minnesota Air National Guard 148th Air Base Squadron. He was an owner and manager of Dwight Swanstrom Insurance Agency. Bill enjoyed collecting quirky art, playing the piano, singing in the church choir, and participating in the New York City Marathon, 11 Grandma’s Marathons, and 9 in-line skate marathons. For 25 years, Bill wintered in Bisbee, Arizona. He was a member of the Sons of the Desert International Laurel & Hardy Society, First Methodist Church in Bisbee, AZ, and Asbury United Methodist Church in Duluth. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Lorne “Mac” and Jonathan “Jock”; a sister, Mary Patterson; his beloved cats, Sooty and Peanut; and Elvis Presley. Bill is survived by three daughters, Debbie Swanstrom (Michael Levine), Becky Swanstrom (William Uhl), and Jane Swanstrom (John Winter); four grandchildren, Matthew Uhl, Samantha Swanstrom, Max Levine, and Lily Levine; and his cat, Tia. Services were held on September 9, 2021, at Asbury United Methodist Church, with burial at Oneota Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Animal Allies Humane Society would be appreciated.
